Founded by Dan Kanefsky, Whole Earth Labs is the product of years spent across both large tech companies and early-stage startups, with a focus on backend engineering. That experience, watching what works and what doesn't, shaped a clear belief: the best software is transparent about what it does and honest about its limitations.

Lastly, one note: Whole Earth Labs is inspired by, but has no affiliation with, the Whole Earth Catalog, the remarkable publication created by Stewart Brand. The Catalog's ethos of democratizing access to tools and knowledge has shaped how we think about software. We offer it our sincere homage.
